Reading Intervention
Select students will participate in this class.
Students receive direct instruction for foundational reading skills utilizing the Institute of Multi-Sensory Education’s Orton Gillingham approach. In addition, students also have access to Lexia Power Up, which is rooted in the science of reading and has proven to be up to five times as effective as the average middle school reading intervention. Lexia’s PowerUp enables students to make multiple years of growth in a single academic year.
Math Seminar
Select students will participate in this class.
Students receive instruction and support to help them understand and learn grade level mathematics. The class is based on prior years' skills, front-loading vocabulary and pre-requisite skills needed for grade level work in the core classroom.
Students also work on grade level problems that have been broken down into parts so that they can build them back together for a greater understanding of the mathematical concepts.
Study Skills
Study Skills courses prepare students for success in middle school. Course topics may vary according to the students involved, but typically include reading improvement skills, such as scanning, note-taking, and outlining; library and research skills; listening and note-taking; vocabulary skills; and test-taking skills.
The courses may also include exercises designed to generate organized, logical thinking and writing. This elective course is designed primarily for students who are still in the beginning or early intermediate stages of English language development.
