Transitioning from Elementary School
Where Everyone Belongs (WEB)
Future Falcons – join us and soar with pride!
WEB is a middle school orientation and transition program that welcomes sixth graders and makes them feel comfortable throughout the first year of their middle school experience. Built on the belief that students can help students succeed, the program trains mentors from your eighth grade class to be WEB leaders.
As positive role models, WEB leaders are mentors and student leaders who guide the sixth graders to discover what it takes to be successful during the transition to middle school and help facilitate sixth grade success. More and more studies show that if students have a positive experience in their first year in middle school, their chances for success increase dramatically.
WEB provides the structure for sixth graders to receive support and guidance from eighth graders who have been through the challenges that middle school poses and understand that the transition to a larger school can sometimes be overwhelming.
WEB is a yearlong transition program with four components that contribute to its success:
- Middle School Orientation - WEB Leaders and sixth graders start building the mentor relationship and receive information about how to be successful in middle school.
- Follow-ups - WEB Leaders support sixth grade academic success and character development through activities
- Leader Initiated Contacts - WEB Leaders connect with their sixth graders on a more individual basis
The goal of WEB is to provide schools with a structure in which students make real connections with each other thus increasing school safety and reducing the incidence of bullying. Through this program, students learn that people at school care about them and their success.
WEB is the middle school transition program that increases student achievement, enhances character development efforts and creates an anti-bullying environment.

Each spring seventh grade students will apply to become WEB leaders for the following year. Falcon Bluffs wants WEB leaders who are kind, caring and willing to work with groups of students. This is a leadership opportunity.
New Beginnings Camp
The transition to middle school can feel overwhelming, yet exciting, for many students and parents. Falcon Bluffs is here to support this transition.
Our four-day camp is designed to build a positive transition as we establish strategies for student success in middle school.
Students become familiar with FBMS culture by participating in several activities during their time at camp. Students are teamed up with WEB mentors and have the opportunity to explore the building, meet with Falcon Bluff staff, practice using a locker, learn successful study tips, make new friends, and, of course, have fun!
Participants will also receive a special t-shirt designed specifically for our newest Falcon students.
Starting middle school can be an exciting time for students transitioning from elementary school. By definition, transition means the change from one place, state of being, or condition to another place, state of being, or condition. This transition is often complex.
As young adolescents are changing school buildings they are also changing hormonally, mentally, and physically. This transition affects young adolescents’ academic experiences, motivation, self-perception, and self-regulation. This process also affects parents and teachers.
Effective transition programs help students move to a new school and become a part of the new school. With the implementation of transition programs and the support of parents, teachers, administrators, and mental health professionals, this transition can positively impact students both socially and academically.
